Support Scottish Student Space Engineering
Asteria has been affected by the pandemic. While technical development is smoothly underway, we are humbly asking you for contributions to support this one-of-a-kind project and make Oracle 1, the UK's first 100% student-built satellite, a reality.
ORACLE 1: REMOTE-SENSING NANOSATELLITE
Tracking Mosquito-Borne Diseases
Asteria have developed a novel scientific mission for Oracle 1 that allows for the correlation and monitoring of mosquito-borne diseases, in light of COVID-19. This is an ambitious and high-impact goal, and we're up to the task.
-
The UK's First Entirely Student-Built Satellite
Teams of students across the world have built satellites -- but not in the UK. It's time to change this and incite the excitement of space engineering among the next generation of UK scientists and engineers. Asteria undergoes every process in real-world satellite development: from mission development and engineering to licensing and regulations.
-
Launch to Orbit
Asteria is working hard to have Oracle 1 in space by December 2023. We're partnering with Responsive Access Ltd. and Commercial Space Technologies Ltd. for the orbital launch of Oracle 1!
AURORA 1: HIGH-ALTITUDE BALLOON
"One Small Step For Asteria"
Aurora 1 is a high altitude balloon project initiated by Asteria to familiarize members with the space industrial network, elements of aerospace engineering and regulation. Our custom designed payload will be launched from the Shetland Islands and travel up to 34km above sea level where it will parachute back down for Asteria's retrieval boat to intercept. This mission is a gateway to satellite development, exemplifying the aforementioned aspects of satellite development on a smaller, though no less engaging, scale.
-
Detection of Muons
Aurora 1 is fitted with a wide host of sensors -- from inertial measurement units, barometers and magnetometers to muon detectors. Post-launch, muon detector data will be scientifically analysed.
-
A collaboration with Shetland Space Centre Ltd.
Asteria are deploying Aurora 1 from the Shetland Space Centre (SSC) on the Isle of Unst in June 2022. This strategic collaboration allows Asteria to build valuable regulatory experience and engineering heritage while developing critical external relations for satellite development. Asteria will be continuing long-term collaboration with SSC for ground-station use with Oracle 1.
